Acid (jazz) Redux: Stanton Moore "Flyin' The Koop" (2002)

by Pico
To kick off the Acid (jazz) Redux series, I’m gonna cheat and start with an album review I already wrote back in September of 2002. But since the artist in question is a good ol’ boy from Louisiana and the album in question is so danged bitchin', I couldn’t think of a better way to start yapping about this much misunderstood but oh so far out genre…
Acid Jazz.
What exactly is that, anyway?
WE'VE MOVED!: Dablog by DaSlob is now ... SOMETHING ELSE. Find the remainder of this review through the new link.

Excellent article, looking forward to readin the rest.
My understanding of the origin of the term "Acid Jazz" differs from yours though. From the way I've heard it, British DJ (and co-founder of the Acid Jazz record label) Gilles Peterson (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/index.shtml) once had to follow up an acid house dj set.
The crowd was going wild for this acid house, and he wasn't sure how to follow it up, so he stepped up to the wheels and claimed that he was all about acid jazz, and proceeded to play rare jazzy funk for the crowd.
Whatever you believe, it's certainly hard to pin down a proper description with words alone. It's all 'bout the music y'know? :-)
I never did get a definitive story on where that term came from, thanks for providing me with it. Kinda figured it originated from the UK.
And what I call acid jazz may not be what the next guy calls it. Hey, as long as it sounds good, because it is indeed all 'bout the music.
Appreciate the good vibes!
